Winners and Losers

Winners and Losers

tgfon has gotten off to a great start this week by winning Monday morning’s 7am freerool. While myself and the rest of the bleary eyed poker players here at Paddy Tower were dragging themselves out of the scratcher tgfon was up beating 127 opponents in the $50 Brekkie Freeroll. Presumably drinking a cranberry juice and doing pilates while doing so.

Either way, tgfon is a winner and I am not ….so congrats tgfon!

My pokering at the weekend involved playing terribly AND getting unlucky in the Fitzwilliam Card Club tournament on Saturday night in Dublin. That is a combination that can only lead to one thing in the poker world - poverty!

I crippled myself by bluffing, firing one too many bullets at an Ace-high board and was called down by KK. It was a great call but in retrospect by overbet on the river was a telegraphed steal. Anyway eventually I got it all-in against another PPP genius in the shape of MikeP. I say genius because their is no other way to describe the skill and dexterity with which he hit his set on the flop when he held 99 against my jacks.

I was not pleased to get a phone call from him 20 minutes after i left the building telling me he had donated all my chips to someone else!

Thankfully, new PPP recruit Paul is a much better player than I am and did us proud by finishing 2nd for a tidy little profit.

I shall be asking him for lessons

‘Texas Dolly’ amongst host of stars to play in the €3 Million Guaranteed paddypowerpoker.com Irish Open

paddypowerpoker.com are delighted to confirm that two time World Champion Doyle Brunson will be amongst a host of stars to compete in the €3 Million Guaranteed Irish Open in Dublin this March.

Brunson, perhaps the most celebrated player to have ever graced the felt, is just one of many poker legends from across the globe who will gather in Citywest Hotel for Europe’s largest and most prestigious poker tournament.

‘Texas Dolly’, who played in the Irish Open in the early 1980s, is delighted to be returning to what is now one of the richest tournaments on the poker calendar. “I've been looking forward to coming back to Ireland ever since I visited my good friend Terry Rogers many years ago. I had a great time.”

“My great, great grandparents were Irish and I'm trying to find out exactly where they came from,” continues Brunson, who will be looking to trace his heritage on the trip.

Joining Doyle Brunson in Dublin will be Dan Harrington, 1995 World Series Of Poker Main Event Champion, who returns after a strong performance in the 2007 Irish Open where he held the chip lead for much of Day 1.

Brunson and Harrington may be leading the charge from across the Atlantic but they will face stiff competition in the finest European players. Top Irish pros Padraig Parkinson and Andy Black will be eager to keep the Terry Rogers Trophy on home soil, while Surindar Sunar, Ram Vaswani and Roland De Wolfe will all be looking to add another title to their already impressive resumes.

Internet sensation Sorel Mizzi will be back again, looking to his improve on his 3rd place last year, while Marty Smyth will have no intention of relinquishing his title without a fight.

Ciaran O’Leary, fresh from his bracelet winning performance at the 2007 World Series of Poker, has also confirmed he will be returning home for the Irish Open, a tournament he would dearly love to win.

paddypower.com is currently offering Outright Winner and Final Table markets on the 2008 Irish Open and will be rolling out many new markets in time for the event.

Paddy Power, Head of Communications for the paddypowerpoker.com, is giddy at thought of his fantasy final table. “It would be quite the accumulator, but what a dream final table it would be if Brunson (28/1) and Harrington (20/1) were to end up four handed against Parkinson (40/1) and defending champion Smyth(28/1). We’d have to build a stadium to fit in all the fans!
